When You're Exhausted

I got my first remote video client in 2022.

And I had a big choice to make.

I had to decide, “Am I going to go after this short-form video content niche? Or do I stay with what I’m doing?”

(at the time, I was in recruitment marketing.)

While video content is a no-brainer now, the choice wasn’t so straightforward then.

I had tried several different business niches in the years before and I was drained from all the pivots.

My work back then was also really demanding. I was doing everything for everybody as a marketing agency.

(which hey, it was worth it. Some of those clients I still work with today.)

When you’re really tired, big decisions seem even more paralyzing.

I was just so reluctant to pivot yet ANOTHER time.

If I hadn’t had Brent Hafele in my court to encourage me, I probably never would have taken the dive into the market I’m in now.

I wouldn’t have been able to build up so many people as thought leaders with video.

And I would have regretted it…majorly…

If you don’t have people around you encouraging you to go in the right direction, you’re probably going to make bad decisions.

You’re going to play it safe and stay small as a business.

(there could be a multiverse version of me that’s still chugging along trying to do everything for everybody)

I’m really thankful Brent was able to give me advice and glad I had the courage to act on it, even when I was running on fumes.

Justin takes a seat with RC Victorino to deconstruct why so much B2B content feels the same in this day and age and what it takes to create something people actually want to pay attention to. They dig into how editorial judgment, internal data, and AI can work together without turning your content into another version of what everyone else is already saying. ----- RC Victorino is a brand and content leader at BuildOps who started his career covering small towns for weekly newspapers in New Hampshire — the day before 9/11. Justin sits down with Justyna Ciecierka to explore what's really keeping people from creating effective video content. It is not a lack of equipment or editing skills. It is performance anxiety.
